  Parvez Musharraf passed away: General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's longest-ruling president, was suffering from amyloidosisat the American Hospital in Dubai.

Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf passed away in Dubai at the age of 79 after prolonged illness, Geo News reported on Sunday.

The former military administrator died at the Dubai American Hospital, where he was being treated for amyloidosis.

Musharraf's family applied to the Pakistani consulate in Dubai to transfer the body( Parvez Musharraf passed away) of the former military leader to Pakistan.

A private plane will fly from Noor Khan Air Base to Dubai to take the body of Pervez Musharraf to Pakistan.

Rumors of Musharraf's death surfaced last year but were denied by the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), a political party founded by the former president.

The party denied reports that he was in a critical condition or on a ventilator. It was reported that Pervez Musharraf is undergoing treatment for amyloidosis at home and his condition is stable.

Amyloidosis is a condition caused by the formation of abnormal proteins in organs and tissues that prevent them from functioning properly.

Condolences are pouring in

Reacting to this news, President Arif Alvi prayed for forgiveness of the deceased and patience for the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif prayed for forgiveness for Pervez Musharraf and condoled with the deceased's family. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Staff of Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad and heads of the three agencies have expressed their heartfelt condolences on the demise of the former Chief of Staff.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf( PTI) elderlyvice-president Fawad Chaudhry expressed his condolences, saying," Musharraf was a great man(.),' Pakistan First' was his testament and vision."

er Punjab Prime Minister Pervez Elahi expressed his condolences and said that Pervez Musharraf's services to the Pakistani army and the country will not be forgotten. The President of the President Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former President and said that he shares the grief with the bereaved.

Who was Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf?

Musharraf was born on 11 August 1943 in Delhi, British India. He was commissioned from Pakistan Kakul Military Academy on 19th April 1961. After assuming office, he joined the Special Service Group.

The military leader, who also fought in the 1965 and 1971 wars, was promoted to the rank of four-star general in 1998 and assumed command of the armed forces after being appointed Chief of Staff (COAS) by the former prime minister. Nawaz Sharif.

A year later, on 12 October 1999, General (retd) Musharraf seized power in a coup.

After assuming the reins of the country, Musharraf became Pakistan's longest-serving president. He was elected president by referendum in 2002 and served until 2008.

During his tenure, the military leader accepted the US proposal to allow Pakistan to become a frontline ally after 9/11.

He was later elected president in 2004 in uniform for a five-year term with the 17th amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan.

Pervez Musharraf is also known for his unconstitutional move to dismiss Supreme Court judges in November 2007, which sparked the attorneys' movement, also known as the Judiciary Restoration Movement.

After a crackdown led by political parties in Pakistan, Musharraf abnegated from the administration on 18 August 2008 to avoid charge and afterward moved to London.

The former military leader was doomed to death by a special court on December 17, 2019 for disloyalty and violation of the Constitution under Article 6 of the Constitution. He was tried by the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz( PMLN) in 2014 for disloyalty for declaring a state of breaking point on 3 November 2007 during his term.
After, he left the country due to illness.
